Use this when your price does not include tax yet.
GST = Amount × Rate ÷ 100
Total = Amount + GST
₹1,000 at 18% → GST ₹180, total ₹1,180.
Use this when your selling price already includes GST, as it does on most Shopify stores in India.
Taxable value = Amount × 100 ÷ (100 + Rate)
GST = Amount − Taxable value
₹2,531.25 at 5% → taxable value ₹2,410.71, GST ₹120.54.
When you sell to a customer in your own state, the GST is split equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). When you sell to a customer in another state, the full GST is charged as IGST.
18% within Maharashtra → 9% CGST + 9% SGST. 18% from Maharashtra to Karnataka → 18% IGST.
